Elizabeth Peyton is known for her painted portraits of famous individuals: Great Britain's Royal Family, famous individuals, and personal friends. Some critics have observed that Peyton's "idealization and stylization of known celebrities" is very similar to the works of Andy Warhol.

I believe that Elizabeth Peyton was trying to highlight specific emotions and capture the physical uniqueness of each individual. Throughout all of the subjects she painted, whether famous or not, Peyton portrays the raw emotions that can be felt by all human beings. Although I cannot be certain of Peyton's intentions for painting portraits, it is clear that she values focus on the character of the individual.
