#18- Madeleine Filloux: La Danse by Henri Matisse
I thought that this picture by Matisse illustrated many of the Gestalt principles nicely. There is clear distinction between figure (the dancers) and ground (the green and blue background). The dancers are also all very alike in color and shape, producing similarity in the image. Their arms connect to create a line of continuation that leads your eye around the painting. Also, even though the arms in the forefront don't seem to be quite touching, they are close enough that the idea of closure is established.
