Kidding. So what is art? I think art is more of a state of existence that can be applied to any tangible thing ... whether it be a piece of furniture, a human being, a sculpture of vapor... all the "thing" needs is someone to elevate it into that state of existence, in which the analysis of the "thing" (its purpose, its environment, its meaning, its formal features) brings about ideas that reach far beyond that "thing". A table, for the most part, functions as an object that holds the things we need: papers, meals, coasters, toys, body parts (namely feet) and oversized/decorative "coffee table" books that show your guests that you are highly sophisticated. But--and this by no means is meant to present a concept for "good art", because personally I feel that it isn't--if someone were to place one of these tables in an empty white room and place upon it four of these "coffee table" books, except with the spines revealing topics like genocide, government corruption and human trafficking, the same pottery-barn paraphernalia would transform into "art", maybe a work that presents furniture as objects that house and express our personalities, the beliefs, ideas and interests that we want people to know we have. These particular books, perhaps, would indicate the absurdity of this concept while pointing to the horrendous interests of countries and societies.
Well anyway, to put this simply, art is:
something + an idea
Now someone else go!
