Domenico Ghirlandaio was a Florentine Renaissance painter known for his frescoes and paintings as well as his guidance to Michelangelo. In the painting below that captures the scene of the Pope handing the scrolls to the Saint, Ghirlandaio uses relative size of the people in the chapel in comparison to the people outside and the overlapping of individuals inside to create a general sense of space. Also, the horizontal line that stops near the face of the pope subtly draws attention to the pope despite the number of people in the room.
